Philoxenus of Mabbug was a fifth- and sixth-century Syriac bishop, theologian, and advocate of miaphysite Christology. He lived after Chalcedon, when imperial policy and church divisions deeply affected Syriac Christianity. He promoted biblical translation, ascetic discipline, and polemical defense
