Gregory Palamas
Gregory Palamas was a fourteenth-century Byzantine monk, archbishop of Thessalonica, and defender of hesychast prayer. He lived as Byzantium faced political decline, Latin pressure, and internal disputes over mystical theology. Against Barlaam and others he argued for the distinction between God's e
